Kuching Serawak, Malaysia, with its globally-recognised halal certification, is the best stepping stone for businesses from China to penetrate into the market, said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic).
He said that the Chinese were very interested in tapping into the halal market in the Middle East as well as Indonesia but faced problems with the halal certification.
"Unknown to many, Malaysia is the only country that has halal certification issued by the government under Jakim (Malaysian Islamic Development Department) and it is respected and recognised globally," he said when closing the MCA-initiated The Belt and Road Initiative: The China-Asean Relations international conference here Saturday.
He added that Malaysia was definitely the most ideal partner for the Chinese to tap into the desired market.
"We have the certification, the Chinese have the competitive edge in food manufacturing and production, which will surely produce favourable results," said Dr Wee, who is MCA deputy president.
